Short Story

2014

installation

Short Story is an installation that served as both a document of several performances and a stage to perform on. A karaoke style video of a short story written by Gordon and based on past performances silently scrolled on a stage of ceiling tiles that included a live mic. Visitors could walk onto the stage and perform the text. Another video of found footage of an Internet video gamer played simultaneously. The gamer records time trials of painting his nails and interacting with a live audience; the viewer cannot see the chat feed and only hears the gamer's side of the conversation. Also included in the installation are: a Family Computer (an early version of a Japanese Nintendo), a Blackberry, a penny with three human ear bones on it, Gordon's life insurance policy, and a digital photo frame shuffling through images of paintings made of Gordon by an ex-boyfriend downloaded from the internet.
